128. The departmental sports association, which was registered as a society in February 1958, has continued to make good progress and now has a membership of 349, representing an increase of 44 over the previous year. The major sport of the department is miniature football. Ten teams competed in the 'Leeds' cup held in April 1959 and eight teams took part in the knock-out competition for the 'Walton' shield held in October 1959. Friendly matches were also played with other Government department teams. A team from the department took part in the Urban Services Department swimming gala, held in November 1959 with considerable enthusiasm, if not success. Table tennis, basket- ball and badminton were also played regularly, though no matches have so far been arranged. On 27th June, 1959 and 22nd August, 1959, a large number of the staff and members of their families spent two very enjoyable Saturday afternoons in swimming and launch picnicking at Picnic Bay and Junk Bay respectively.
