112. Senior Staff Changes.

In July Mr. T. C. Cheng, Cadet Officer, who was the Resettlement Officer in charge of the multi-storey estates, left the department to become District Officer, South, and was succeeded by Mr. F. K. Li, another Cadet Officer.

At the end of October Mr. N. M. Taylor, Executive Officer, the Accountant/Secretary of the department, left the Colony on vacation leave and his place was taken by another Executive Officer, Mr. K. Evans.

In November Mr. D. R. Holmes, Cadet Officer, left the department on his appointment as Chairman of the Urban Council and Director of Urban Services and was succeeded as Commissioner for Resettlement by Mr. A. St. G. Walton, another Cadet Officer.

In December Mr. P. B. Williams, Cadet Officer, left the Colony on vacation leave and, as no relief was available, his post as Planning Officer at Headquarters had to be filled temporarily by an Executive Officer already on the staff of the department, Mr. J. V. G. Mitchell.

Mr. T. W. Carr, Executive Officer, joined the depart- ment in February and was appointed Officer in Charge of the Squatter Control Section.

113. Previous chapters have dealt with the clearance and resettlement operations carried out by the Mobile Resettlement Unit and with the administration of the multi-storey estates and the cottage areas. The work of two other sections of the department, the Screening Section and the Squatter Control Section is described briefly in the next two chapters.

SCREENING SECTION

114. The clearance of a typical squatter area has already been described in an earlier chapter. Before such a clearance can be carried out it is necessary to have particulars of all persons resident in the area and these particulars are obtained
