ORGANIZATION AND STAFF
OF THE RESETTLEMENT DEPARTMENT
109. The Resettlement Department operates under the general direction of the Urban Council. There are three Select Committees concerned with resettlement, of which the Com- missioner for Resettlement is Chairman, and these deal with Resettlement and Clearance Policy, the Cottage Resettlement Areas, and the Multi-Storey Estates.
110. The department has four main functions: the prevention of squatting which is the responsibility of the Squatter Control Section; the screening and documentation of squatters living in areas due for clearance, which is carried out by the Screening Section; clearance and resettlement operations which are carried out by the Mobile Resettlement Unit; and the administration of the three multi-storey estates and the fourteen cottage resettlement areas which is carried out by the staff of the Resettlement Administration Office, Homantin, Kowloon.
