Department and the Police Force-not simply with the heads or headquarters of those departments, but with all ranks. Those concerned have not only not been taken aback by the very considerable additional work caused by the clearance and reset- tlement programme: they have gone out of their way to understand the difficulties associated with resettlement and to help to overcome them.
90. This report would not be complete without a final tribute to the staff of the department. It has not been an easy year and many officers have been required to work long and irregular hours in very trying conditions. Little of the work is in the nature of routine, all of it is urgent and most of it involves unexpected difficulties and frustrations at every stage. The response of the staff to these demands has been more than encouraging and has done them the greatest credit.
