Public Affairs
13. The Public Affairs Section, which lays stress on providing in- formation on Government policies and actions, dealt with many subjects of concern to the community and expounded on these prob- lems in depth. The programmes are carefully arranged to give a balanced view on controversial issues. In the 'Talking Point' series members of the public are able to air their opinions or grievances, and in the programme 'Late Call' which is broadcast each Friday night senior government officers are made available to answer questions from the public on the telephone. Special programmes were aimed to cater for particular groups of listeners, for example, 'Farmers' Week', 'Fisher- men's Half-Hour' and 'Life in the Resettlement Estates'.
Outside Broadcasts
14. One of the major broadcasting occasions of the year is the annual Chinese Manufacturers' Association Exhibition. In the 28th C.M.A. Exhibition which was held from 9th December, 1970 to 12th January, 1971, Radio Hong Kong again operated a glass-windowed studio in the Exhibition Ground. In the afternoons and evenings special arrangements were made for request programmes and Chinese riddle contests to be broadcast for the enjoyment of visitors.
15. In addition to commentaries and broadcasts from songhalls and theatre restaurants, all major events and festive celebrations, etc., were covered. The most prominent event last year-one that called for the most complicated technical arrangements and the deployment of a large number of personnel-was the visit to Hong Kong by His Holiness Pope Paul VI on 4th December, 1970, which was given a 3-point live coverage at Kai Tak Airport, Happy Valley Race-course and the Govern- ment Stadium.
Children's Programmes
16. Children's Programmes were broadcast twice a day for the benefit of the younger generation. Many children were also invited to come to the studio to participate in the programme 'Let's Get Together', which is in the form of a children's party or a 'happy gathering'. Some are selected to take part in programmes like 'The Little Visitor'
