Drama

31. Chinese radio plays are particularly important, for there seems to be an insatiable demand for drama by listeners. The output is remark- ably high and was running at over 30 plays a week. Outstanding among these were the following productions:

32. "The Dramatized Serial'-This programme, which was broadcast every evening from 8.15 to 8.45, was the most popular of all. It is a comedy serial but the writer, Mr. Ko Hung has enjoyed great success by incorporating into his scripts aspects of various campaigns running in the community at the time. Just as the script-writer for 'The Archers' in Britain manages to carry a good deal of agricultural information, so Mr. Ko brings in palatable advice on such public problems as narcotics, defective eye-sight, cholera and so on.

33. 'The Serial Play'-This consisted of a series of radio plays mainly concerned with family life in a typical Chinese family. This 30- minute programme was broadcast five times a week from 12.30 to 1.00 and was specifically designed for housewives, amahs and those listening at home.
