farmers, for people in resettlement estates, in the New Territories, for the blind, and news magazines such as "Topical Events'. Regular feature programmes included a series on social work, news features which dealt in depth with topical news stories, and 'What the Papers say' a summary of editorial opinion during the week. Programmes of special interest for students such as 'Is This For You', "To a High Degree' and 'Who Cares' also attracted great interest from the student population. Advances were made during the year also in the field of audience participation, with 'Schools' Quiz' and telephone quiz pro- grammes being augmented by 'Late Call, in which the public was invited to telephone the studio, where spokesmen from various fields were waiting to answer listeners' enquiries.

27. Outside broadcast units were active as usual in covering the opening of Broadcasting House, the University Congregation, Queen's Birthday Parade, the Bun Festival at Cheung Chau, the Tin Hau Procession at Yuen Long, the Dragon Boat Festival and Chinese Lunar New Year Bazaars. Perhaps the busiest time for the outside broad- casts unit was the Festival of Hong Kong in which all major events were covered over a period of some 2 weeks. Finally, the Japanese Expo '70 exhibition at Osaka was fully covered by a Radio Hong Kong commentator with daily 10-minute reports. A select list of topics covered by 'Talking Point' and 'Out and About' are given in Appendices E and F.

Music

28. The success story of the year in the music section of the Chinese Service has been the great development in popularity of the Lung Cheung Opera Company which, since its inauguration in May of 1968, has now put on 83 performances and has 53 productions in its repertoire. The Company performed in the Concert Hall of the City Hall for four consecutive evenings in September, for which all tickets were sold before the shows went on. During the Festival of Hong Kong, the Company confirmd its remarkable popularity by putting on eight performances on eight different occasions throughout Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. The seal was set on its success in December when its first long-playing record entitled 'The Dream of the Peony Pavilion' was published.

29. Another highlight of the year was the selection of artists to conduct the Government Lottery Draw in August of 1969. Those chosen all came from the music and presentation sections and the occasion was
