21. 'Time rolls by in Hong Kong'-A monthly variety programme with comedy, interviews, news and modern songs sung by top pop singers. It is noteworthy that this popular programme is also distributed on tape to Chinese restaurants in Britain through the London office of the Hong Kong Government and the 'Reditune' Service.
22. 'Concerts of modern songs'--As part of the policy of the Chinese Service to encourage local artists in the performance of modern Chinese songs, regular concerts have been given throughout Kowloon and the New Territories in conjunction with the Urban Services Department.
23. 'Modern songs in serial dramas'-These have also been a popular feature of the drama output. Special events during the year in which the entertainments section played an important part included the CMA exhibition, where request programmes were regularly broadcast, the CMA stall singing contest, and a special concert of modern songs by Radio Hong Kong artists at the CMA grounds. During the Festival of Hong Kong, a team of Radio Hong Kong artists entertained the blind by giving five concerts of modern songs at various centres for the blind. Also at Chinese New Year, concerts were given by local pop singers and by Radio Hong Kong's own artists. These concerts proved most popular also among Hong Kong emigrants in the United Kingdom.
24. 'Beginners Please-This popular amateur singing contest enjoyed a further series with a finale at the end of every 7 weeks.
Public Affairs
25. As H.E. the Governor mentioned in his speech at the opening ceremony, Radio Hong Kong places emphasis on information and public affairs programmes, and the Chinese Service during the year, played an increasing part in informing the public of the activities of Government and public institutions and also in reflecting back responsible, well-informed opinion on matters of public concern. Sixteen programmes a week are concerned with meeting the aim of developing understanding between the community and Government.
