71. The medium and short wave transmitting station is at Hung Hom on the Kowloon Peninsula; the VHF/FM transmitting station is at Mount Gough on Hong Kong Island. The receiving station is part of the Cable and Wireless station at Mount Butler, also on Hong Kong Island. The studios are located in Mercury House, while two news studios are situated in Beaconsfield House.

72. Radio Hong Kong also provides studio facilities to numerous foreign correspondents enabling them to send voicecast reports back to their parent broadcasting organizations overseas. These voicecasts are routed through Cable and Wireless' radio telephone circuits, as well as the cables COMPAC and SEACOM which offer very good circuits for these purposes.

Broadcasting House

73. Planning and the construction of new equipment to be used in the new Broadcasting House went ahead and equipment requirements were prepared based on the preliminary plans drawn up by the architects.

Miscellaneous Installations

74. A control room and studio was constructed at the Chinese Manufacturers' fair at Hung Hom at Christmas and a similar installation was built at the Agricultural Fair at Sek Kong also in December. These studio units were equipped for both live and recorded broadcasts from the sites, and proved a popular attraction with the public at both fairs.

75. The multi-channel microphone/recording system for the Legisla- tive Council Chamber mentioned in last year's report was installed in May. This consists of 16 microphone channels with amplifiers and recording facilities. Much use was made of this installation during the year particularly in the recording of Legislative Council Debates..

76. Two microphone/line amplifiers were designed and made up. The amplifiers have automatic level control and are designed for unattended operation at remote points. The first unit was put into use at Kai Tak Airport where it can be switched on by a reporter; inter- views, etc. are recorded down the line at Mercury House and no control or adjustments by the operator are necessary.

77. A sub-carrier modulator and demodulator with a frequency of 23 Kc/s was designed, tested and installed. It was put into use to
