is Mr. Lo Ka-chi, who is well known in musical circles in Hong Kong both as a musician and a composer and has been an adjudicator for the Hong Kong Schools' Music Festival. The venture has been of con- siderable success and has resulted in an improvement in the quality of performance of Cantonese music.

30. Amongst regular programmes performed by the Orchestra were 'Songs to Remember', broadcast weekly on Tuesdays, in which many local operatic artists took part and 'Songs from the Five Lamb City' broadcast weekly on Thursdays at 10 p.m., in which the songstresses are mainly those from Hong Kong's teahouses.

31. Another popular venue for the Radio Hong Kong Cantonese Orchestra was the City Hall on the occasion of the Sunday afternoon concerts, which were jointly sponsored by Radio Hong Kong and the City Hall management. In the summer months, when air-conditioning was an added attraction on hot humid days, the concerts were well attended. The price was kept at a moderate $1 per seat. The Orchestra also performed at the Chinese Manufacturers' Association Exhibition and the special Chinese New Year concert at the City Hall.

32. 'Sunday Concert' was broadcast every alternate Sunday after- noon. These programmes feature amateur musicians and the music groups of local societies. Musicians from organizations such as the Kowloon Goldsmith's Staff Association, the Chinese Coxswains' and Engineers' Association, the Kwun Tong Community Centre and many others took part in the series. Altogether 16 organizations were repre- sented and the programmes are a useful way of encouraging local music groups as well as affording an opportunity to producers for talent spotting.

33. On the lighter side 'Cabaret on the Air' and 'Dinner Time Music' continued to provide good entertainment. 'Cabaret on the Air' is a musical show which features the top singers of the Colony and is usually recorded before a large audience in the City Hall in association with 'Beginners Please'. 'Dinner Time Music' is a live broadcast from one or other of the night spots of Hong Kong. Broadcasts during the year were made from the Hilton, Mandarin, President and Ambassador Hotels, The Blue Heaven Night Club, The Show Boat, The Savoy and many others.

34. Request programmes maintained their popularity. 'Par Avion', 'Hospital Requests' and 'Students Favourites' are three typical exam- ples. In particular 'Hospital Requests' achieved a greater measure of
