precautions, reviews of prices and catches, improvement of techniques for both line and trawl fishing and so on. Fishermen and their families with interesting stories to tell are frequently interviewed and members of the Agriculture and Fisheries Department talk about new regulations and other matters of importance to the industry.

25. 'Any Questions', which began in April and is broadcast at 9 p.m. on Sunday evenings, is a discussion on general questions sent in by listeners. A panel of about 50 people has been formed and from this list three men and one woman were invited each week to put forward their views on points raised by listeners. Normally about four questions are discussed, mostly topical in nature. The panel consists of members of the various professions, urban councillors, bankers and merchants, industrialists and ministers of the church. At the end of each session listeners are invited to send in their views on the matters discussed and this forms the basis for a follow up programme 'Any Comments' in which extracts from listeners' letters are read over the air.

26. April also saw the final of another Inter-School Quiz which had begun a few months earlier. The quiz was designed for Class 4 of Chinese Middle Schools; 22 schools entered for the competition. Ques- tions were set by an officer of the Education Department and the subjects included literature, science, history, sport, music, general knowledge, etc. The students were encouraged to try to give more than just straight-forward answers to the questions so as to develop their ability to speak in public. The final programme was held in the City Hall Theatre and the Director of Education presented the prizes. A second series was mounted in October in which 21 school participated. 27. The BBC continued to supply 'Miss Wong's Diary', a dramatized serial about life in Britain with comments on current happenings. 'Science and Industry', 'Commonwealth Magazine' and 'Hong Kong in Britain' are also BBC programmes of considerable value to Radio Hong Kong. From Australia the ABC supplies 'Australian Newspaper Digest'. This weekly production is a round-up of newspaper comments and reports on events in Australia.

ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMMES

28. About one-third of the daily Chinese Service output is devoted to music and about one-tenth to drama.
