increased period 7.30-8.30 p.m., allowed greater flexibility in presenta- tion and a certain amount of music was introduced between items. This new programme quickly proved popular with listeners since it offers a sixty minute session which includes local commentary combined with music and world news.

BREAKFAST CLUB

47. Another production of interest was 'Breakfast Club', broadcast from 7.30 - 8.00 a.m. from Mondays to Saturdays. This programme was a morning miscellany of words and music. It began in April 1962 as a staff production. It was rested in the winter months and re-introduced in March 1963 using outside contributors as well as Radio Hong Kong producers. 'Breakfast Club' established that a morning programme of short talks combined with suitable music can be made to appeal to listeners even in the early hours of the day.

OTHER NEW PROGRAMMES

48. A number of new programme ideas were introduced during the year, some of which are listed below.

49. 'A View from the Peak'-in which tourists and visitors to Hong Kong were interviewed and asked to draw comparisons between life in Hong Kong and their own home town.

50. 'Let's Take a Trip'-a set of illustrated talks in which the contributor discussed the customs and environment of a different country each week and enlivened his talk with the music of the featured country. 51. 'Argument'-a weekly debate on contraversial subjects, presided over by a Radio Hong Kong producer.

52. 'Inter-Schools Quiz'. In January Radio Hong Kong started to record the first programme in a series of knock-out inter-schools quiz programmes between Hong Kong secondary schools. A shield will be presented annually to the winning school.

53. 'Room at the Top'-a weekly discussion programme in which students were invited to the studio to question leading men and women in Hong Kong about the career opportunities in their particular profession.

54. During the 1962 Test series between England and Australia, Radio Hong Kong introduced a third transmission on a frequency of
