popular bacause Chinese listeners like to know what a film is about before they go to see it.

54. 'Movie Magazine', broadcast on Wednesday evenings, gave details of the latest developments in the film industry and the pro- gramme included interviews with leading film stars, accounts of visits to film studios and location workings and other items of interest to the Hong Kong audiences, for whom cinema-going forms an important part of life. In, 'Going to the Pictures', listeners also had the weekly opportunity to hear what the critics had to say about the good and bad points of films currently being shown in the local cinemas.

Sport

55. Commentaries on nearly all of the important matches in the local football season were broadcast, and interport basketball and table tennis matches were also covered whenever possible. A weekly 'Sports Cavalcade' included details of what was going on in the sporting world, and there was also a sports 'forecast' and 'roundup' by Mr. LAI Tuen-po at the beginning and the end of each week.

56. An annual sporting event of considerable importance in Hong Kong is the round-the-island 'Walkathon', which is organized by the Sing Tao - Tiger Standard group of newspapers. This year the event took place on the 1st of July. A feature of the broadcast was the extensive use of the 'Walkie-Talkie' transmitters by commentators on the spot and although the occasion was accompanied by heavy rain the commentators and engineers kept up well with the participants. A weary, but jubilant Mr. YEUNG Chik-yim won the event, and he was interviewed at the finish by a Radio Hong Kong reporter.

57. An account of the Cross-Harbour Swimming Race was broadcast on 27th October, and once again the Marine Department kindly provided a launch for mid-harbour commentaries.

58. The Macau Grand Prix is always a popular event, especially amongst the motor racing enthusiasts, and the Chinese service kept listeners posted with the track positions by means of broadcasts and commentaries from the headquarters of the Macau Yacht Club.

Festivals

59. The traditional Chinese festivals were usually marked by maga- zine programme items in either 'We are living below the Victoria Peak' or 'Topical Events' although individual programmes were devoted to the more important. The Dragon Boat Festival on June 17th received
