other special announcements were given as they came to hand. The handling of the Chinese translations of the Royal Observatory's weather reports over the telephone has proved difficult and time consuming. In order to overcome the delays involved Radio Hong Kong has now installed a special cubicle at the Observatory from which announce- ments will be made direct in future.

38. On July 1st, 1961, a special feature was produced to draw attention to the Public Enquiry Service, a new Government Department which open on July 3rd, 1961. On 5th March, 1962 a follow-up pro- gramme was prepared to mark the opening of the Kowloon Office of the Service.

39. In February, 1962 the 'Air Doctor' series, hitherto in the form of short radio talks, was replaced by short dramatized features. The scripts were written by a qualified officer of the Medical and Health Department and well-known film stars took part in the programmes.

40. During the cholera epidemic a comprehensive feature was pro- duced to explain the importance of the Government's Anti-Cholera Innoculation Campaign in which officials of the Medical and Health Department, Urban Services Department and the British Red Cross took part. Regular announcements were also made during this critical period encouraging listeners to visit the innoculation centres.

41. On 26th November, 1961 a prize giving ceremony for the winners of the 'Traffic Safety Quiz', sponsored by the Wanchai Kai Fong Association, was held and broadcast in the Concert Hall of Radio Hong Kong.

Industry, Agriculture and Fishing

42. The Commonwealth Technical Training Week was observed in Hong Kong from 24th to 29th April. A number of special programmes was prepared to mark the occasion and these included a discussion on 'Industry and Young People', a feature on the work of the Technical College called 'The Cradle of Hong Kong Industry' and a talk on technical training in Britain by Mr. H. K. WATT, Vice-Principal of the Technical College. The happenings at the 'Open Days' of various Technical Institutes were also recorded by eye-witness accounts.

43. The popular weekly feature 'Workers Playtime' continued to provide good broadcasting and a welcome event for the managements of a large number of Hong Kong factories. It is based on a wartime B.B.C. programme in which a small group of variety artists are taken
