Drama

28. Dramatic productions are probably the most popular type of programme with Chinese listeners and the department's ability to keep up with demand calls for resourcefulness on the part of producers. The problem is nearly always to obtain sufficient working scripts and these mainly come from the adaption of Chinese novels, both ancient and modern, and from translations of the works of Western authors. The two most successful series of plays broadcast during the year were translations of the original B.B.C. serial 'Journey into Space', which had such a wide listening public throughout the English speaking world, and 'Inspector Scott Investigates'. The first person to telephone in the name of the culprit was rewarded with a cash prize.
