An extension of the use of material produced for the pro- gramme is made possible by having extracts of the weekly farming discussions recorded on tape for use by the extension officers of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Department. A fishermen's pro- gramme was still under discussion at the end of the year; fishing news is included in the farmers' programme from time to time, but it has not so far been possible to mount a separate programme.

54. At the beginning of January a special weather forecast service was provided for fishermen, with sea area forecasts for the main fishing grounds around the Colony being broadcast four times a day.

55. The 1960 Agricultural Show was given extensive coverage, with five commentators taking listeners on a forty-five minute tour of the Show, and interviewing exhibitors and prize winners. As with the English Service coverage, this was only made possible by the help given by the Army authorities who provided some 4,000 feet of micro- phone cable. As an entertainment contribution to the Show, Radio Hong Kong produced a special edition of the Happy Farmers Variety show at the showground.

Outside Broadcasts

56. Many magazine and variety programmes depend on material recorded outside the studios, but in addition there are a large number of programmes produced entirely outside. Big annual parades, Armistice Day, the Queen's Birthday, the Police Parade, the Review of the Hong Kong Regiment, and so on have become fairly routine commitments, and the emphasis now is always on improving the quality of the broadcasts and introducing new ideas to prevent staleness. The Macau Grand Prix is a regular commitment; and this year, through the courtesy of Radio Vila Verde in Macau, two half hour recorded programmes covering the major events of the two days were produced and broadcast in Cantonese.

57. The 6th Kaifong Day celebrations, held at the Peninsula Hotel were fully covered, and the opening of the 100th resettlement block at Wong Tai Sin by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Govern- ment and the laying of the foundation stone of the City Hall by His Excellency the Governor were other important outside broadcasts.

58. The two regular weekly sports features, Sports Roundup' and 'Sports Cavalcade' were joined by 'Sports Forecast' in November and
