now being produced and these are most welcome. Until the beginning of the year, little use could be made of the BBC English Service for the Far East, 'London Calling Asia', for relay purposes, owing to persistently poor reception. At the end of 1958, a vast improvement came about when the service in question was incorporated into the General Overseas Service, and thereafter regular weekly use of English programmes directed at the Far East was made. Facilities were made. available by Radio Hong Kong to the BBC Far Eastern correspondent, who spent several months in Hong Kong during the Quemoy crisis, and a small number of items were contributed by the Controller of Broadcasting for use in Radio Newsreel. General assistance was given to visiting BBC television teams preparing feature film material on Hong Kong and contributions were made to several BBC domestic sound programmes.

119. Relations with the CBC were close and cordial and went onto a more personal basis when an ex-member of Radio Hong Kong's staff, now living in Montreal, joined the staff of the CBC International Service, which provides Radio Hong Kong with many high quality English transcriptions.
Australian Broadcasting Commission
120. Several visitors came from the ABC, including Mrs. G. L. Byth, the Queensland Governor for the Commission, and Dr. Keith Barry, the Controller of Programmes for the external service, Radio Australia. Dr. Barry's visit resulted in an extension of Radio Hong Kong's own transcription service when orders were placed for the use of several series of Radio Hong Kong Kuoyu programmes by Radio Australia. The ABC continued to send a regular Australian Magazine for use in Radio Hong Kong's English Service.
The Voice of America
121. Mention has been made of the excellent drama productions which the VOA made available and which gave listeners an oppor- tunity of hearing some of the finest actors in American drama classics. The VOA also made available several series of well presented popular music shows.
