undertakings. Chief among these were those concerned with the visit of H.R.H. the Prince Philip, described in paragraphs 9 to 21. But also ambitious in scope was the coverage of the Walkathon with VHF vans and telephoned reports, the Hong Kong Products Exhibition with its five commentary points, ad lib. interviews and live spontaneity, the Kai Tak Runway opening with its widely separated commentators, its difficult noise problem and for the commentators the challenge to keep talking for long periods.

93. To give the fullest possible coverage for the small but enthu- siastic minority who passionately follow cricket, extensive commentaries on the England v. Australia Test Match in Australia were relayed from Radio Australia. The English Service remained on the air all day for the period of the Test and the volume of telephone calls from listeners and commendations from press and public, showed that this precedent was valuable. Sporting pro- grammes relayed during the year included the Boat Race, the Scottish Cup Final, the Derby, the Oaks, the 2000 and 1000 Guineas, the Cesarewitch, the Cambridgeshire, the Ascot Gold Cup, the Goodwood Cup, the St. Leger, all international Rugby matches, the major motor races, the Third Asian Games, the New Zealand/England Test Cricket,
