85. The annual B.B.C. Reith Lectures were given last year by George F. Kennan. Recordings of the talks were flown out to Hong Kong and were broadcast only three weeks after their original Home Service transmission.
86. The University of Hong Kong arranged a symposium of five programmes on 'The Mind of Man' in which four speakers-an anatomist, a physchiatrist, a zoologist and a physiologist-put their own points of view in considering the structure of the human mind and defended them in discussions.
SPORT
87. The Saturday magazine 'Sports Cavalcade' was the fulcrum of the week's sports broadcasting. The main popular sport in the Colony is still soccer, but cricket, boxing, hockey and rugby are also regarded with much interest.
At least once a week commentaries on soccer matches were broad- cast, including the internationals. The principal commentators were John Wallace and Ted Thomas.
On joining the permanent staff Ted Thomas took over the position of sports programme producer.
88. Fuller and better quality coverage was given to this year's Macau Grand Prix as a result of the close co-operation of the staff of Radio Hong Kong and Radio Vila Verde.
89. The cross-harbour swimming race was broadcast 'live' for the first time on the English programme; and extensive coverage was given to the 'Walkathon', the Tiger Standard's annual round-the-island walking race. A team of commentators followed the walkers round the island, recorded commentaries and interviews being rushed back to the studios for broadcast and other reports being telephoned in.
90. The main sporting events in Britain were relayed from the General Overseas Service including the Test Match series with the West Indies, the F.A. Cup Final, the Derby and the Grand National, the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race and the main Rugby Union Internationals.
RELIGION
91. The innovation in this field was the advent in November of 'A Thought on Your Way', a daily five minute Christian talk similar to the B.B.C. 'Lift Up Your Hearts'. Speakers in this series were drawn
