and to provide the latest information about market prices. Each pro- gramme included general New Territories news, a talk by a member of the Agricultural Department on a topical farming problem, a farmers letterbox in which questions were answered, a 'farming calendar' giving a reminder of do's and dont's and entertainment, usually provided by the farmers themselves, with songs or stories. The programme is recorded each week in a different village and although these have been restricted to villages with access to motor traffic, it is intended to broaden the scope of the programme to take in the more remote villages.

36. A rural equivalent of 'Workers Playtime' was in the planning stage at the end of the year, the intention being to take a complete variety show, with artists and band, to record regular programmes before rural audiences.

37. Where it is useful, special weather information is also included in the programme and an example of this was the first frost warning for farmers broadcast on January 16th. Farmers were also advised on the measures they should take to protect their crops from frost.

OUTSIDE BROADCASTS

38. Coverage of sports events in the Colony was considerably improved with two sporting magazine programmes being added to the broadcast commentaries on soccer matches. Sports Cavalcade was the first of these, coming on the air on June 1st, produced by Mr. LAI Duen Po, whose voice has been familiar to soccer enthusiasts for many years. The programme was taken over by Mr. CHENG Keng Pin # at the end of August, Mr. LAI starting another sports programme, Sports Roundup. Sports Cavalcade gave notice for the first time to the many different sports played in Hong Kong, from table tennis to yoga.

39. Weekly commentaries were broadcast on soccer matches; and major sporting outside broadcasts included the Cross Harbour Race, the Tiger Standard's Walkathon, the opening of the Victoria Park Swimming Pool and the 30,000 metres race at Caroline Hill Stadium.

40. In October racing enthusiasts were given the latest form in a series of talks broadcast on the eve of every Race Day. Commentaries were broadcast on the Kwangtung Handicap and the 'Pearce Memorial' Cup in October and January, respectively.
