The Ampex Video Tape Recorder, 1200B was fitted with Colourtec. This unit upgraded the machine from monochrome to colour operation.

One Ampex TV Colour Camera BC 230B was temporarily installed in Studio 1 for simple colour programme production.

Communal TV aerial system was installed in Broadcasting House to supply feeds to all TV technical areas, continuity studios and certain offices.

Colour Matte Generator was fitted to Vision Mixing Unit as colour synthesizer to produce coloured background on caption.

To link up with the new television service, Commercial Television which was inaugurated in September, the following facilities installed in the Central Apparatus Room were required:

a) Video equalization amplifiers, coaxial cable

outlets and coaxial choke patchable to working and spare cables linked with CTV.

b) Video and audio monitor selector and control

panels.

c) Intercom talkback system.

Golden Hill MW Transmitting Station

97.

Little broadcasting time was lost during the year. Both services were off the air for a total of 2 minutes and 10 seconds due to lightning strikes damaging two aerial current meters.

Mt. Gough VHF/FM Transmitting Station

98. There were no major failures of the transmitters throughout the year. A total of 14 minutes for both English and Chinese Radio Serviceš was lost due to Hong Kong electricity power failures, these were very short breaks and within a minute at each incident the emergency generator took over the power load. Failures in transmitters and associated equipment were of minor nature and the principal components expended were valves.

Transmissions of both RHK2 and RHK4 were closed down between 06.00 - 14.00 local time from March 15th to 19th 1976 to allow Cable & Wireless staff to dismantle 4-stack quadrant
