'Management in Action' was the attempt to involve the listener by relating subjects discussed on the programme to those issues and problems faced by people in their everyday lives Managing Money, Managing Time, Women in Management, Motivation and the Art of Delegation were some of the topics discussed in the series.
'In LegCo': The need to make Legislative Council proceedings more legible or listenable was considered during the year. And in December the Public Affairs Unit came up with a more relaxed and informal but hard-hitting format for covering Legco sessions. The Legislative Council business is aired in a fifteen minute programme following the meeting and then repeated at eight o'clock the following morning. Recorded material from the Legco chamber was used in the programme, but in order to attract a wider audience and avoid the use of official jargon and terms, the new format relies also on the use of the interview. The top men, the heads of Departments who are responsible for formulating laws and carrying out Government policies, are now heard discussing Legco matters across the microphone with our reporters. The result is they sound much more genuine and down to earth, and the listener hears replies in a language he understands on what are often very complex issues.
Coverage of the Legislative Council: In view of the growing interest among members of the public in the work of the Council, it was decided to broadcast the proceedings live in both English and Chinese. A circuit between R.T.H.K.'s studios and those of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in Sydney was opened, providing us with a link to receive recorded material for use in three special programmes. The voices of the candidates speaking at rallies, their comments to reporters and the opinions of voters as they made their way to the polling stations made up much of this material. In addition to the three 'specials', RTHK took a direct feed from the ABC's overseas transmissions and relayed live reports and news as the elections were in progress. Needless to say, we were on air with the results the moment they were announced, including the victory speech from Mr. Malcolm Fraser and the voice of former Prime Minister,
