401. It is recommended that one manuscript book with an off-cut index be used instead of the 28 folders.

Additional typist for Open Typing Office.

402. It is recommended that one of the typists to be released from another office, as recommended in the report, should be posted to this office to provide an additional typist, so that it may provide better service to the stenographers in copying non-confidential documents.

LIBRARY.

Stores.

403. Office stores are issued monthly to sections and at any time during the official day to senior officers.

404. It is recommended that stores should be issued to senior officers on two mornings a week only.

Method of requisitioning stores.

405. When a senior officer orders items of stationery he may do so verbally, and periodically stock books are submitted for his receipt against each item supplied.

406. It is recommended that an officer or his assistant should give a signed writ- ten order for stationery which order should be entered by the Storekeeper in his stock records without further troubling an officer.

Motor Despatch Service Schedules.

407. Departments apply by typewritten memo for weekly supplies of these printed schedule forms.

408. Now that experience has been gained of this service, the Storekeeper should, from his past records, ascertain the number of schedule books required over a period of three months by each Department and it is recommended that orders for printing should be placed for six months' supply and Departments should be issued sufficient number of books to cover three months' requirements. Subsequent supplies should be ordered on the Controller of Stores direct by Departments.

Recording the issue of Schedule Books.

409. The present method is laborious and requires individual entries of issue. It is recommended that the present numerical record should be abolished.

Storekeeper's messenger.

410. It is recommended that the post of the messenger now attached to the Store- keeper should be abolished. When the Storekeeper requires assistance he should apply to the Receipt and Despatch section for a messenger. Assistance can also be given by office cleaners.

Additional duties for Storekeeper.

411. The Librarian who supervises the work of the Storekeeper, should arrange for this officer to be given additional duties.

Ordinance amendments.

412. When amendments are printed and published a typed copy is made in duplicate, and these are pasted in the bound Ordinances.
