GOVERNMENT TRADE SCHOOL.

PROSPECTUS.

AIM.

The school is designed to give such a training as will enable boys of this Settle- ment to follow a trade for a livelihood.

BUILDING & EQUIPMENT.

The school which is situated in Batu Lanchang Lane, has been specially built and designed for the purpose.

The equipment includes everything necessary to a modern work and machine shop and all fittings and tools likely to be used by the students after leaving the school. (a) The Machine Shop is equipped with 34", 61" and 8" self surfacing, sliding and screw cutting lathes, shaping machine, high speed and sensitive drills and grindstones. All accessories necessary for high class machining are available.

(b) The Blacksmith Shop contains three forges, anvils, swage block, brazing

hearth, water tanks and all necessary tools and appliances.

(c) The Fitting Shops have benches, vices and all hand tools required for a most complete training in all branches of fitting. In addition the most up-to-date electrical and other special tools will be available for use and for demon- stration purposes so as to enable students to become familiar with modern practice.

(d) The Motor Repair Shop is so equipped that all repairs may be carried out as in large garages. Complete motor cars, and separate components such as engines, gear boxes, back axles, etc. will be provided on which students may obtain ample experience in all classes of automobile repairs and ad- justment. An accumulator charging plant, a tyre vulcanizing machine and electrical testing apparatus will be installed so that no branch of the trade is neglected.

(e) The Lecture Room or Drawing Office is fully equipped for its purpose and sectional models and charts will be used to demonstrate the theory of the internal combustion engine and its components both electrical and mechani- cal.

(f) A completely equipped Stores is run on recognised workshop lines.

(g) In addition there are locker Rooms, Recreation Spaces and Cycle Sheds for

the convenience of students.

STAFF.

The school is in the charge of a Civil Engineer as Principal. The students work under the personal supervision of the European Instructor, who has first class work- shop and motor experience. The European Instructor is assisted by Local Instructors.

ADMISSION.

Admission is not restricted to any race. The minimum qualification required of applicants is that they have satisfactorily passed Standard V in a Government or Aided English School of this Settlement.
