The Chancellor of the Exchequer now reminds the Board that the further gifts C.S.O. recited below have been made to His Majesty's Government.

Hongkong. The Legislative Council has voted further gifts in May, 1918, of £250,000 and in August, 1918, of £300,000 as contributions towards the cost of the

3352/14.

War.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer recommends that, in order best to meet the desires of the Donors, the sums received in respect of these gifts, except so far as otherwise specified, should be paid into the Exchequer for application towards the general expenses

of the War.

Their Lordships' thanks have already been conveyed through the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Legislatures and Communities of the Colonies and Dependencies concerned, but Their Lordships avail Themselves of this opportunity to place upon record Their appreciation of these spontaneous and generous contributions towards the expenses of the War.
