A-Four months.
Q-Do you know what is the average number of patients in the hospital?
A-The average is fifteen to twenty.
Q--Do you know what the size of the hospital is?
A-I cannot say.
Q-You have not measured it?
A-I have not.
Q-Are there any beds in the hospital?
A. Yes.
Q-Do you mean simply mattresses ?
A-Beds.
Q-Is the hospital crowded at any time?
A-Yes there are four or five prisoners in one cell.
Q-Do you remember the man who died on the 2nd June ?
A-Yes.
Q-Did you attend to him at all?
A-Yes.
QDid you dress his wounds?
A-Yes.
Q-How many times a day did you dress his wounds?
A-Three times a day.
Q-Do you often get people in the hospital suffering from wounds as the result of a flogging?
A-Yes.
Q-How many people have you known die within a month of the flogging?
A-This is the first one.
Q-The one the other day was the only one?
A-Yes.
Q-Did you see that man when he came into the hospital?
A-Yes.
Q-What was the state of his buttocks?
A-The wounds from the first flogging were properly healed; there were slight
marks.
