I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatches No. 240 of the 23rd of July and No. 249 of the 29th of July, forwarding and commenting upon a Petition against the Sunday Cargo-Working Ordinance.

In reply I have to refer you to my despatch No. 170 of the 31st of July, relative to another Memorial on the subject of that Ordinance, and to request you to inform the present Memorialists that I have considered the arguments raised in their Petition, but that I see no reason for departing from the decision already arrived at, that the Ordinance should be left to its operation.
