Q.--Did you see the draft when it was here?

A.--No.

Q.—And did not know anything about the letter before it appeared in the paper?

A.-No. I had never heard of it.

Q.-Do you know FRASER-SMITH?`

A.-No. I have never seen him.

Q.-Nor his brother?

A.-No.

A. Yes.

Q.-You told Mr. BIRD a story about Mr. BowDLER's house, did you not?

A.-No. I said nothing whatever about it. I never said anything about Mr. BOWDLER's house.

Q. Did you not admit to me in Mr. BIRD's Office that you had repeated the story, but that it was only the workmen's gossip?

A.-No, I never told you anything about it.
