Q-Do they ask for explanation, or do they take it on the signature of the Surveyor General ?

A.-I don't remember.

Q.-It is merely a formal thing?

A. Yes.

Q-Well, when you get a bill, it may be for brick-work, or request for an advance on a contract, then you make out a pay sheet?

A. Yes.

Q. Do you send this to the Audit Office?

A. Yes.

Q.-You do?

A. Yes, he signs the pay sheet.

Q.-When that bundle of bills goes to the Audit Office, what they do with it?

A.-That I cannot say.

Q.-What is the object of sending it there?

A.-To see that the payment is correct, that the man is entitled to the money.
