During the year, Lady MacLEROSE visited the Morninglight Centre for mentally handicapped children run by a voluntary agency in Wah Fu Housing Estate and is shown joining in one of their games.

June 1972 brought exceptionally heavy rain and with it disaster causing considerable loss of life and property. In that period of emergency, the department, responded, as it does in all emergencies or natural disasters affecting the people, by making available its Kwun Tong Community Centre as a shelter for the victims of the Sau Mau Piog landslide. The Governor, Sir Murray MACLEHOSE (Centre wearing raincoat) is shown inspecting relief work at the Centre.
