Centres, of which there are altogether five. Specialist services are administered by Principal Social Welfare Officers with long experience in their respective fields of speciality; these officers act as consultants to the casework service and liaise with voluntary welfare organizations within their respective fields of speciality. The whole Division is administered by a Senior Principal Social Welfare Officer.
CASEWORK SERVICES
57. The first of the district offices was established in 1965 at the Western Magistracy. It serves the needs of the population living on Hong Kong Island in an area west of Garden Road and those on the offshore islands. The Western District Office is under the direction of a Social Welfare Officer who is assisted by a staff of 26 caseworkers including a casework supervisor.
58. The second of these offices, opened in 1966 and situated in the Causeway Bay Magistracy, caters to the population living on Hong Kong Island in an area east of Garden Road. The Eastern District Office has a staff of 29 caseworkers including 2 casework supervisors, all working under the direction of a Social Welfare Officer. Unlike his Western District counterpart, however, the officer in-charge is addi- tionally responsible for the administration of a Family Services Centre situated at the Chai Wan Resettlement Estate, where 4 caseworkers provide similar services to the population living in Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan.
59. The third and largest office, opened in 1967 and situated in the Kowloon Central Post Office Building, has a staff of over 80 caseworkers including 3 casework supervisors, who work under the supervision of a Principal Social Welfare Officer. As Officer-in-charge of the Kowloon District Office he is responsible for the administration of casework in Kowloon generally and in the New Territories; in addition to this he supervises the work of three subsidiary offices, namely the East Kowloon Family Services Centre (Wong Tai Sin Resettlement Estate), the Ham Tin Family Services Centre and the Tsuen Wan Family Services Centre (Shek Lei Estate Welfare Building).
60. The fourth office, opened in September 1968 and situated in the Un Chau Street Post Office Building, provides services for people living in the northern part of Kowloon in an area west of the railway and north of Prince Edward Road, including such districts as Tai Kok
