project aroused much interest when it was first mooted and, although as yet the money necessary to place the project on a firm footing is lacking, there are hopes that a school may be established on the Sai Kung peninsula in the New Territories in the not too distant future.

During the year two thousand, six hundred young people from fifty organizations and schools used the centre. This establishment provides simple accommo- dation, facilities for cooking and equipment for physical recreation and exploration of the neighbouring countryside. Trekking and hiking in the New Territories are also encouraged by the provision of facilities at a small group of village schools which the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups has equipped to accommodate up to ten young people each a night, on youth hostel lines. The other, to be created by the refitting and adaptation of an existing though derelict clubhouse, will provide a meeting and recreation centre for young people from the Fanling district. It is intended that the new Centre should stimulate understanding and greater participation in the affairs of the district and give young people from the city the opportunity of fresh air and recreation.
