15. Facilities for specialized training continued to be provided at the same time, in the form of the 18 months' Club Leadership Training Course run for prospective youth leaders by the Youth Welfare Section of the Social Welfare Office in co-operation with Grantham Teachers' Training College. By 31st March, 1955, 3 trainee club leaders were nearing the completion of their studies whilst 4 more students selected for the same course commenced their training in the Autumn of 1954.
16. During 1954/55 the following courses were arranged in the United Kingdom for workers in Government and voluntary welfare services:
(1) a British Council Visitorship Course in Family Welfare Work-attended by a worker from the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society;
(2) a course for the Divisional Commissioner for Kowloon of the Girl Guides Association, designed to provide additional qualification in camping and a Training Certificate;
(3) a special course on blind welfare arranged by the British Empire Society for the Blind for a member of the Social Welfare Office staff;
(4) a course of further training in Medical Social Work
attended by an Almoner of the Medical Department.
CHAPTER IV
INFANT WELFARE
17. Although Maternal and Child Health is primarily the concern of the Medical Department, some aspects of infant wel- fare have for many years been handled by the Society for the Protection of Children. During 1954/55 this Society carried on at 5 centres its work of educating mothers of poor families in infant hygiene and feeding, in addition to giving out milk and cod-liver oil, etc. to babies and nutritious congee and multi- purpose food to older children and pregnant and nursing mothers.
