The Official Languages Agency continued to provide advisory and support services to bureaux and departments. It produced reference materials and glossaries of terms commonly used in government departments. In September, it published a book of official Chinese writing samples in daily administrative and personnel matters for bureaux and departments to meet operational needs. During the year, the agency worked closely with the Information Technology Services Department in developing the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set and ISO 10646, the latter being an international effort to unify the internal codes of Chinese characters.
