Wan Chai Reclamation Phase 2 is under planning. A comprehensive study will be conducted and is targeted for completion by mid-2000. Together with the other phases of Central and Wan Chai Reclamation, it will accommodate strategic road links along the north shore of Hong Kong Island between Central and the eastern part.

On the western side, Belcher Bay Reclamation and the construction of Belcher Bay Link on it were completed in February 1997 to tie in with the opening of the Western Harbour Crossing. The District Open Space at Belcher Bay Reclamation as part of the project was completed in August 1998.

The Green Island Reclamation will produce about 186 hectares of land (including some 10 hectares already formed under the Belcher Bay Link Project) on the north of Kennedy Town for residential development and strategic road links as well as provision of open spaces including waterfront promenades and an urban fringe park. The reclamation will be implemented in stages according to the development programme for housing sites, transport infrastructures and other related facilities. An engineering and planning review study commenced in May 1998 to review the planning layout for the area and to define the scope and programme of each reclamation staging.

On the eastern side, the Aldrich Bay development has produced some 30 hectares of land for private and public housing, open space and other uses. The new typhoon shelter was put into use in early 1991, while reclamation of the old typhoon shelter was completed in August 1997. Design for roads and other infrastructure has been completed and works will start in early 1999.

Infrastructure works and building developments for various uses were well advanced on the 56 hectares of land formed at Siu Sai Wan. Two secondary schools and three Private Sector Participation Scheme housing developments together with most of the infrastructure were completed. The Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground has come into operation. Another secondary school and the two remaining footbridges were under construction.

At Telegraph Bay, about 20 hectares of land were reclaimed in 1989. Access roads are being planned for the implementation of the proposed housing development there to meet the territorial housing demand. An engineering feasibility study to identify the engineering infrastructures required for the proposed housing development commenced in March 1998. Infrastructure works are tentatively scheduled to commence in late 2000 for completion in 2004.

Kowloon

Infrastructural works and developments have continued on West Kowloon Reclamation since its substantial completion in 1996. Further to the completion of some major distributor roads in 1997, roads linking the Airport Railway's Olympic and Kowloon stations were opened in 1998 to tie in with the railway's opening. The remaining road and drainage works on West Kowloon Reclamation will be progressively completed to tie in with the developments. A large open space fronting Nam Cheong Estate serving as a buffer zone between the residential area and West Kowloon Expressway was opened for public use in early 1998. Other private and public housing and commercial developments are in progress. Moreover, five
