Hong Kong's stunning new gateway to the world, the international airport at Chek Lap Kok, began taking regular services on July 6, after its formal opening by President Jiang Zemin on July 2 (right).
By year's end, the airport was impressing users so much that it won the annual Critics' Choice Award of Travel & Leisure magazine, America's leading travel industry publication.
