The Post Office issued five sets of special stamps during the year. These featured the Year of the Pig, Hong Kong international sporting events, Hong Kong rural heritage, the Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers) and Hong Kong movie stars. Two $10 definitive stamp sheetlets were issued: one to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II (Hong Kong Classics Series No. 6) and the other on Hong Kong's participation in the Singapore World Stamp Exhibition Singapore '95.

A new philatelic office was opened at the Tsuen Wan Post Office bringing the total number to seven. The Hong Kong Post Office participated in four philatelic exhibitions overseas to promote the collections of Hong Kong stamps and to heighten international awareness of the Hong Kong Post Office.

Hong Kong has maintained a high international reputation for the good quality of its postal service. The Hong Kong Post Office has been playing an active role in the Asia-Pacific Postal Union (APPU), the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the association of Commonwealth Postal Administrations. During the year, the Hong Kong Post Office attended meetings of the UPU Postal Operations Council, the UPU Express Mail Service Contract Management Team and the 7th APPU Congress.

The Post Office Customer Liaison Group, in its second year of establishment, continued to assist in the effective monitoring of performance pledges and to provide a chance for direct exchange of views between customers and the Post Office.
