Note: # Figures on cargo movement by ocean-going vessels are based on the Shipping Statistics System set up by the Census and Statistics Department and are estimated from a sample of consignments on ocean cargo manifests. Figures on cargo movement by river vessels are provided by the Marine Department. The totals of these figures differ from those provided by the Marine Department and used elsewhere in this publication. @Starting from 1993, ocean-going vessels have been redefined as all vessels operating beyond the river trade limits whereas river vessels have been redefined as all vessels operating exclusively within the river trade limits. To facilitate comparison with 1993, statistics for 1992 compiled according to the new definition are presented in brackets (~~).

All figures compiled under the new definition are published in the nearest thousand.

§ Excluding livestock totalling 1 875 272 heads in 1991, 1 907 675 heads in 1992 and 1 798 166 heads in 1993.

Road transport refers to cross frontier traffic through Man Kam To, Sha Tau Kok and Lok Ma Chau to and from China. + Provisional figures.
