Notes:
(1) As from March 1991, the Hong Kong Standard Industrial Classification (HSIC) is adopted to replace the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) modified version. Figures for September 1990 have been adjusted to conform to the HSIC. Figures of the past series in ISIC, unless adjusted to conform to HSIC, are not strictly comparable to those in HSIC.
(2) For a breakdown of the number of establishments and employment in manufacturing industry by the HSIC, the table in Appendix 17 should be referred to. The statistics therein are figures for industry groups in the manufacturing sector having more significant domestic export value but they cannot be readily derived from Appendix 17 because some of them may cut across more than one Major Group/Group in the HSIC.
(3) The coverage of the industry groups in the above table is given below:
(i) The industry group 'textile and clothing' corresponds to the major groups wearing apparel except footwear' and 'textiles' in
Appendix 17.
(ii) The industry group 'electronics' includes 'office, accounting and computing machinery', 'radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus', 'electronic parts and components', 'electronic toys', 'electronic industrial apparatus', 'watches and clocks, electronic' and 'electronic products, n.e.c.".
(iii) The industry group 'watches and clocks' includes 'watches and clocks, mechanical'; 'watches and clocks, electronic'; 'metal wrist
watchbands' and 'cases and parts for watches and clocks, n.e.c.'
(iv) The industry group 'plastics' corresponds to the major group 'plastics products' in Appendix 17.
(v) The industry group 'electrical appliances' includes 'electrical appliances and houseware', 'dry batteries (excl. lead accumulators)',
'electric and torch bulbs and tubes' and 'electrical products and accessories, n.e.c.'.
(vi) The industry group 'jewellery' includes 'jewellery' and artificial pearls and imitation jewellery'.
(vii) The industry group 'toys and dolls' includes 'wooden toys', 'rubber toys', 'plastic toys', 'metal toys', 'electronic toys' and 'toys,
n.e.c.'.
(viii) The industry group ‘fabricated metal products' corresponds to the Major Group ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and
equipment'.
(4) There is some overlapping in industrial coverage in some of the above industrial groups:
(i) 'Watches and clocks, electronic' is included in both 'electronics' and 'watches and clocks' groups.
(ii) 'Metal wrist watchbands' is included in both 'fabricated metal products' and 'watches and clocks' groups.
(iii) 'Electronic toys' is included in both 'electronics' and 'toys and dolls' groups.
(iv) 'Plastic toys' is included in both 'plastics' and 'toys and dolls' groups.
(v) 'Metal toys' is included in both "fabricated metal products' and 'toys and dolls' groups.
However, the figures of 'watches and elocks, electronic', 'metal wrist watchbands', 'electronic toys', 'plastic toys' and 'metal toys' are counted only once in the 'total of the above groups'.
