INDUSTRY

The economy of Hong Kong is dependent on the export earnings of its industries, with the biggest money-spinner being textiles. About 70 per cent of the industrial workforce is employed in producing tex- tiles and clothing, electronics, plastics and toys-and these industries account for more than 70 per cent of total domestic exports. Hong Kong is the world's largest exporter of garments, toys, plastic flowers, and battery torches. Although 1975 saw a decline in trade figures on account of the international recession, many manufac- turers were reporting during the last quarter that their order books were look- ing healthy again, with some of them full. And with standards of quality now established and recognised, manufacturers today confidently stamp their products
