were Dame Eileen Younghusband, an internationally known social work expert; Miss Pearl Jephcott, researcher and consultant from UNICEF; Mr Davies Jones, an expert in residential care; and Dr Irving A. Spergel, UN adviser on youth work. Dame Eileen's mission in Hong Kong was connected with the assessment of the development of social work education since her last visit in 1961. Dr Spergel, who remained for 11 months, made a considerable contribution towards the training of youth workers—a long-felt need by those who are concerned with the development of youth services and the training of appropriate personnel for Hong Kong. Professionally trained social workers are continuously in demand. To enable potential candidates to obtain training at the university level, funds through scholarships and bursaries are provided by the Social Work Training Fund, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the American Women's Association and the Government.
