recorded at the Royal Observatory; this was on 18th Septem- ber, when the centre of typhoon "Susan" passed 20 to 30 miles to the south of the Colony. A gust of 75 knots occurred during this typhoon, but prolonged warning had been given of the approach of the storm, and damage was not extensive. Strong westerly winds associated with the passage of typhoon "Rita" to the north of the Colony caused some damage to lighters and small craft on 2nd September.
