MANAGEMENT REVIEW OF OPERATIONS

KMB and the China Light & Power Company Ltd. carried out a joint study to assess the feasibility of operating battery-powered buses. The study showed that double-deck buses cannot be powered by the batteries currently available. Further development was suspended as it would incur enormous expenditure.

KMB engineers are engaged in a preliminary investigation of the use of liquefied natural gas as an alternative fuel which may result in a significant reduction of exhaust emissions.

In April, KMB implemented a policy to recycle all waste paper by setting aside an area on every floor of the headquarters building and at strategic points in depots for the collection of waste paper. The paper is collected for recycling by a specialist company.

Another precious commodity which KMB recycles is water. To wash KMB's 3,000 buses each day

requires about 119,000 litres. The used water is

collected by the drains in each bus washing bay and recycled for bus washing.
