STUDENT SUBSIDY
The Government cancelled the student subsidy paid direct to KMB with effect from Ist October, 1988. Instead of providing all students with travel cards. allowing them to travel at half-fare on KMB bus routes, a cash payment, equal to half the cost of a limited
number of trips, is given direct to the parents of those students who do not live within walking distance of their schools. It is estimated that under the
new student subsidy scheme, an
average of 80,000 student passengers
per day have been lost by the Company.
LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM
Following the enactment of the
Amendment of Franchise (Kowloon
Motor Bus Company) Order 1987,
which curtailed the Company's right to
provide internal bus services in the
North West Transit Services Area,
KMB has lost approximately 134,000
passengers a day since the Tuen Mun Light Rail Transit System was
commissioned in September 1988. The Company is currently discussing with the Government the compensation due for the unilateral cancellation of KMB's right to operate internal bus services in that area.
EASTERN HARBOUR CROSSING AND ROUTE 5
學生乘車津貼
政府已於一九八八年十月一日取消直接
撥款予九巴作學生乘車津貼,學生不再獲
發予乘車証容許他們半費乘搭九巴,
代之是政府將一筆相等於指定乘車次數
一半車費的現金,直接給予那些居住距離
學校較遠不能徒步返學之學生的家長。
此新學生津貼計劃實行後,估計本公司
每日平均約損失學生乘客八萬人次。
輕便鐵路系統
1987年修訂專利權(九龍汽車公司)令
頒佈後,本公司在新界西北部輕便鐵路
服務區提供區內巴士服務之權利受到
削減。自輕便鐵路系統於一九八八年九月
投入服務後,九巴每日載客量減少約
十三萬四千人次。本公司已就政府單方面
取消九巴在該地區經營區內巴士服務之
權利,與政府磋商賠償問題。
東區海底隧道及五號幹線
東區海底隧道於今年稍後時間通車後,
本公司將開設兩條行走新海底隧道之過海
巴士線,並計劃於一九九零及一九九一年
增闢多條由將軍澳及油塘開出行經東區
海底隧道之巴士線。
Upon the opening of the Eastern
Harbour Crossing (''EHC'') later this
year, two new cross harbour routes
will be introduced using the new tunnel. Additional routes are planned to operate via the EHC from Junk Bay and Yau Tong in 1990 and 1991.
