as practicable both to reduce densities and to act as a 'lung' in what, in a few years time, will be a heavily-populated semi-industrial district. The views of the Government departments concerned have also been sought on the provision of amenities such as schools, clinics, bus terminal, Post Office, and it is hoped to incorporate these in the final plan.
SITE AT MA TAU CHUNG, KOWLOON
A site of about ten acres at Ma Tau Chung, Kowloon, east of the Kowloon City Police Station, was recently relinquished by the Army. It is at present occupied by a disused hutted camp and has been reserved by Government for development by the Authority as its fifth scheme. The P.W.D. has been asked to define the boundaries and to consult interested Government departments on the public buildings and amenities to be incorporated in the estate. It is understood there will be no objections, when the new runway is in use, to building up to 150 ft. in height. The engineering requirements are being investigated and draft conditions of grant prepared. Arrangements have already been made by the Authority for a topographical survey of the site, and this work should be completed by the end of May 1958.
