It will be observed that Sir J. E. Tegnant assumes the reins of Government retains them until the arrival of Lord Torrington. Col. Fraser commands the Forces, and it is rumoured that in future a Major-General will not be deemed necessary for the Command in Ceylon.

LORD TORRINGTON-That Printer's Devils make woful mistakes who does not know? we know it to our cost and bitter mortification. But when a man's reputation is at the mercy of an Editor too stupid to perceive the glaring mistakes of a Devil, the case is sad indeed. For instances Lord Torrington as dealt with by the Cevion Times. The Times in introducing an extract from a letter of the Bengal Hurkar's English correspondent, talks of Lord Torrington's "bibacious propensities, as dwelt on by the Liverpool Albion: After this we expected to see something in the extract from the Liverpool dibion which would bear out the charge. We were surprised to see nothing of the kind. The correspondent of the Liverpool Albion says that Lord Torrington had been a plague to Earl Grey by cessaut solicitations for the office By a very natural process the Hurkaru's corresponder verted incesant solicitatione" into hard dunning, and by ản equal process the Calcutta Devils converted dunning into drinking. If the mous of the Times Editor bore any proportion to his self-esteem, he would at once have seen thru a mistake so transparent to any inteligent member of the Press. A pretty opinion le trust hate of the Colonial Unicefigent drinking at the Colonial Office! the Colonial Secretary of course participating therein, and yielding the Governorship of Ceylon to his hard drinking boon com- panion!! We have much pleasure in removing from the fame of our future Governor a stain affixed to it by carelessness and stupidity, and we beg the Editor of the Times to accept this correction as an equivalent for his "rebuke."
