The position which we here lav down, cannot possibly by gainzaid. The principle to which we refer has been invariably admitted, and it is well known that the Indian Authorities have ever guard ed it with a vigilance alike jealous and prudent, as the very foundation of their rule, and palladium of their power. The revenues of India are derived inainly from the industry of her native population, and that population consists for the most part of men whose creede diffar as widely from our own as dark respect their religions, and allow them to practise hess from light. We have pledged ourselves to them in peace and hitherto that pledge has been how come for any alteration in this enlightened and nobly redeemed. We trust that the time is not judicious policy; and that as our Government has not heretofore favored Hindoo, Parsee, or Maho medan, at the expense of hristianity, so none of these will ever have cause to complain that their Victoria, 18th October, 1845,

The Board consists of four European and three Natives mem bers, and these parties are colled upon to receive the monies and apply them to certain purpose specir fially mentioned in the Act-of which repairing public ronds and places is one. The monies are of course drawn, in by far the greater measure, from the native inhabitants of Bombay.
