There is a rumour in circulation, that Aden has been declared a free port. We noticed the probability of this event some months since.

The remonstrance of the East India and Chi- na Association against the New Indian Cus- toms' Duty Bill has been laid before the Court of Directors. We have at present no reason to think that the measure will be entirely a bandoned, even though it should be for the pre- sent postponed.
We have reason to believe that Mr. Macau- lay has undertaken to bring the subject of Lord Ellenborough's India administration under the notice of Parliament-Mr. Hume adopts the case of the Rajah of Sattara, and also that of the Ameers of Sinde.
We repeat that the Cavalry augmentation rests entirely with Sir Henry Hardinge's re- commendation. If he is decidedly in favour of the increase, and so reports, we have no doubt it will be conceded.
A fine vessel, intended for the East India trade, was yesterday launched from the build. ing-yard of J. Somes and Co.--she is named the Lady Perte.
In some of the Indian papers was perceive speculations as to the probability of her Majes- ty's Government interfering with the existing
charter, in order to deprive the Court of Direc tors of the power of recall. We can assure our contemporaries that no such interference was ever contemplated by Ministera.
The East India Directors have resolved, be- fore private companies start into existence, to have the whole Continent of India surveyed with the view of laying down a general system of railway communication. A proposal has already been made to an eminent engineer to proceed to India for the purpose of undertaking. the necessary survey; and instructions have been given to the Governor-General to lend all the assistance in his power in furtherance of this stupendous work.
The remains of his late Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex have been removed from the catacomb under the chapel in which they were vault prepared for their reception in the Cens placed after the funeral, and deposited in the
ral Cemetery, Kensal-green. The Lord Cham berlain and the Vice-Chamberlain of her Ma- jesty's Household, and the executors of his late Royal Highness, were present.
