Last summer, a Medical Gentleman on the Island, made our columns the medium of giving strangers a few hints, which are not inapplica ble to older residents. We re-publish a por. tion of his letter, an attentive perusal of which, and an adherence to the advice it gives, may be the means of preserving health.

Besides the above, there are other precaution- ary measures which must not be neglected, such as an immediate change of wet clothes and shues, frequent ablution by cold sponging or the shower bath without rubbing--a sparing use of the fruits of the season, especially when not fully ripe,-an immediate attention to the first symptoms of in- disposition (as disease strengthens with its growth), and daily exercise on foot or horseback.
