From the Friend of India, April 17. INDIAN EXTRACTS, Moulmain papers to the 12th March have been received. There does not appear to have been any fresh convenient fires, or any new sitting of the patriots. Bat a case of some importance had been tried by Capt. Macleod, assisted by three European gentlement as assessors. The master of a brig chartered by Mr. Clark for a voyage to the late wreck of the Runnymede, recovered some property from it, for which he considered himself entitled to salvage, and the Court determined that he was not so entitled.NIN

The Malta Herald of the 31st March gives on extract of a letter from Dr. Wolff, dated Trebis- onde the 12th February. From this letter it ap- pears that the worthy Doctor is accompained by an Envoy to the Court of London on the part of the Commander of the Faithful, the Ameer of Bokhata; but as no representative of the murderer of Connolly and Stoddard can be received at the Court of England, it is probable he will stop short at Constantinople,

We are happy to learn from the Gentleman's Gazette of the 2d April that Phood Sawunt, the | We have been favored with a copy of the Re- Sawant Warree insurgent, and his adherents have port of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce for the been arrested in the Goa territory. The subject last specified is one of so much importance to all interested in trade and shipping that we shall make no apology for extracting the statement at full length :-

-The Bombay Times of the same date, under the head of intelligence from China, alludes to the loss of the Inglis, and adds, "the fine old race of Indiamon which used to beat off the frigates of foreign nations, will we fear be speedily at an end. Within four years five of them have perished-two by fire, and three by wreck,--and there are none now building to supply their places. The day and "glory of these mercantile traversers of the deep, has, we fear, departed-a less majestic, but more economical size of craft have come into their places." The Editor would not have written thus if he had visited the port of Calcutta during the Jast winter. He would there have seen vessels as large, as majestic, and far more convenient than the largest and noblest of the old Indiamen. That commercial navy exhibited nothing to compare with the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Mo narch. We may affirm with safety that,-setting aside our incomparable steamers-the first class vessels riding at anchor in our port in the month's of December and January last, far exceeded in number, in beauty, and in magnificence, the whole body of Indiamen in the port during the most palmy days of our Honourable Masters.

“Construction of the Navigation Act.

"A letter received from the London East India and China Association by the January mail, puts your Committee in possession of the important in formation that the Bombay Police Authorities, in carrying out, some time since, the supposed pro- visions of the Navigation Act, in reference to the numerical strength of the crews of British vessels, acted upon a serious misconstruction of the Law. The above Association, having communicated on the subject with H. M. Commissioners of the Cua. toms, have been informed as follows, with respect to the point at issue:--

"The construction put upon the provisions of the Navigation act by the authorities at Bombay, is not correct, nor in accordance with the construc- tion put upon the law in the United Kingdom.
